i got 99 problems but a gender ain't one

If you're bringing racism/cissexism/any other ism into my box, you might want to clear out before you even start.   (About page!)

I'm Grimm, I like movies and cartoons, and you should use they/them/their pronouns when you're talking about me because there's a fairly good chance I won't know who you're talking to otherwise or just won't acknowledge it because you aren't addressing me, you're addressing some weird projected image you have of me.

attention homestuck fandom: crossdressing and genderfluid are NOT synonyms and should not be paired together as if theyre the same concept bc they have basically nothing to do with each other

IN FACT, its really fucking offensive, because while genderfluid people can crossdress just like anyone else, the idea that crossdressing indicates gender fluidity makes it sound like youre saying that when someone dresses in a way that fits their gender at that moment then theyre crossdressing! when in fact! if they are dressing to fit their gender they are not fucking crossdressing bc crossdressing means the opposite of that! you binarist shits!

peepus-deactivated20120703 asked: Your URL is incredibly stupid and I want to shit on your face and force blue dongs in your mouth

Answer:

I don’t even know you, but your cissexism is bleeding through this post. You might want to get that checked out, because it’s overwhelming.

I’ll say this once (ha!), so I can use this as a redirect for whenever people are assholes: I’ve got this url to piss off a cis person who told me the Once-ler can’t possibly be trans*, because they didn’t say so in the movie. Because logically all trans* people out-and-out say they’re trans*, and I’m not allowed to have trans* headcanons. Cissexism: fun` for the whole family!

#smogulasmoke  #cissexism
1. You equated “die cis scum” with trans*phobic hate. Do you understand nothing about how cissexism works? ”Check your privilege” is also no different than “you don’t really know anything about this issue, please don’t involve yourself, you’re just forcing your way into an issue that you really don’t belong in”. Would you tell someone to not say “check your privilege” to a person bragging about his Thanksgiving feast to a homeless friend that could barely get enough to eat? Check your privilege is not a negative phrase.
2. Thanking people for being “allies” (which is bullshit, but we’ll get to that) while not acknowledging that so many people have been fighting for so long for trans* rights.
3. “THANKS, ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS AND FRIENDS, FOR BEING DECENT FUCKING HUMAN BEINGS AND INVOLVING YOURSELVES IN OUR MOVEMENTS AT YOUR CONVENIENCE. IT’S BEEN REALLY HELPFUL.”
4. Do you understand where “die cis scum” comes from? At all? Do you understand the hate that went from the cis community to the trans* community that prompted this phrase to exist? Did you miss the death threats, the racial and transmisogynistic slurs, the stalking and the harassment?
5. you’re white aren’t you

Radical feminism and biological determinism

ad-mirandam:

I don’t get why radscum wouldn’t consider themselves biological determinists. They believe, as Freud said, “anatomy is destiny”: that you are what sex you were assigned at birth. Never mind neuroplasticity or endocrinological development in utero: if you were born with a penis you’re a man, vagina you’re a woman. For life. End of story. Science be damned.

Biological determinism is fallacious for a whole host of reasons, least of all because it falls victim to the naturalistic fallacy, and chiefly because human bodies and minds are more than their genetics. We develop as expressions of our genome, but our minds allow us to become greater, to enter into relationships at every level of the world. Why else would we actively work against our genome so often, by shaving our legs, cutting our hair, getting vasectomies, and yes, even repairing our bodies when they’re hurt by genetic disorders?

Radscum, in many ways, fall prey to magical thinking regarding sex. They assign an immutability and dichotomy to sex for which none is indicated, scientifically, socially or morally. I’ve seen radscum proclaim with triumph that “even [intersex people] can be sexed” one way or the other. I’ve seen them declare that women are nothing more than “DNA.”

Apart from lacking in compassion and critical thought, radscum are a very dour bunch.

To be fair to them, they are following what patriarchal culture overwhelmingly tells us.  They just go to the extreme ends of it.

I see no reason to be fair to radscum.

While they ARE shit, I’ll extend them the courtesy that they refuse to extend to me. Besides, we can beat them handily without resorting to their level of bullshit. I mean, come on, they keep resorting to outdated fallacies and they use double standards against us. Do you really feel that it’s necessary to stoop to their level?

I’m not going that far.

I’m just tired of reasons that feel like excuses. Yeah they’re basing all their shit on the patriarchy. Yeah that’s the source.  But they should know fucking better. They really should considering they’re actually being pathologically misogynist in their cissexism.

DUDES.

ACKNOWLEDGING THE IMMUTABILITY OF REPRODUCTIVE FUNCTIONING IS NOT “BIOLOGICAL DETERMINISM” AS RELATED TO A PERSON’S SELF-EXPRESSION. IT IS A SCIENTIFIC FACT.

ACKNOWLEDGING THAT GENITALS ARE A PRE-CONDITION TO CERTAIN OPPRESSIVE SOCIAL EXPERIENCES— THAT OF FEMININE GENDERED SOCIAL CONDITIONING—IS NOT BIOLOGICAL DETERMINISM, EITHER. IT’S SOCIAL DETERMINISM BASED ON GENITALS.

WHEN GENDER DIES, WE WILL NOT LONGER HAVE THIS SOCIAL PROBLEM. BUT WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE REPRODUCTIVE DIMORPHISM. BIOLOGY IS NOT TRANSPHOBIC.

Actually sexual dimorphism isn’t really a biological fact. It’s an arbitrary summing of a heavily varied set of development paths off of XX and XY genetics. Like how there’s genes that can switch on or switch off the development paths, negating the effects of XX or XY.

Also hilariously enough reproductive functioning doesn’t hold throughout all cisgender women. And I’m not even talking intersex where an individual ids as a woman and was assigned (often with nonconsensual awful surgery) or designated (where no surgery occurred) as a woman early on (cuz that would still be cis). There’s all sorts of hormonal disorders, infections, genetic conditions and environmental situations that wipe out reproductive function completely or partially, removing cisgender women from your vaunted magical uterus club (if you actually had any consistent rules for being a part of it)

Even worse, more than one woman has slid past here and told you to fuck yourself with bricks before you claim that all women have the same experience. Forgetting trans women for a second (since your hate boner is a little too hard to work around right now) socialization varies wildly between cis women of differing economic class, geographic and cultural region, race and ethnicity, disability and neurodiversity, size (fat vs. thin) and a host of other factors. All of this varies the sexism faced as well.

And dodging around your raging hate boner, trans women face a host of internalized shit from the subconscious association with other women (during the passing as male phases, if that passing even occurs since many trans women exhibit traits of social femininity through connecting to women role models and end up pulling in cissexism right away) that piles on us via the media and surrounding individuals. Then as soon as transition occurs, an even heavier variant of misogyny strikes because it’s amplified by being trans and the cissexism we face. If a trans woman has passing privilege as cis then she’d face the misogyny that is fairly normal for her ethnicity, region, disabilities, economic class, etc etc etc (provided only that no one ever found out she was trans, which in this day and age is fucking impossible) along with all the subtle wide directed media and social elements of trans hate (since there’s more than just direct hate in oppression)

So basically, you’re an ignorant shit who doesn’t understand biology, oppression or really even womanhood in general. And you’re still not cool despite speaking in all caps all the time.

Reblogging for science lesson for biological determinists.

The liberal betrayal of [Breanna] Manning →

tal9000:

Trigger warning for misgendering on the link.

socialuprooting:

More than three years into the presidency of Barack Obama, it’s almost a cliché now to ask: What if George W. Bush did it? From dramatically escalating the war in Afghanistan to institutionalizing the practice of indefinite imprisonment, Obama has dashed hopes he would offer a change from the Bush’s national security policies – but he hasn’t faced a whole lot of resistance from liberals who once decried those policies as an affront to American values.

Like those on the right who now crow about fascism but spent the Bush years gleefully declaring left-wing celebrities “enemies of the state,” many of those on the liberal-left treat issues of war and civil liberties as useful merely for partisan purposes. When a Democrat’s in power those issues become inconvenient. And usually ignored.

Former dean of the Yale Law School Harold Koh, for instance, used to rail against the imperial presidency, speaking of the horror of torture and “indefinite detention without trial.” Now a legal adviser for the Obama State Department, he recently declared that “justice” can be delivered with or with out a trial. Indeed, “Drones also deliver.” Don’t expect much more than a yawn from Democratic pundits, though, much less any calls for impeachment. It’s an election year, after all. And what, would you rather Mitt Romney be the guy drone-striking Pakistani tribesmen?

“Obama and the Democrats being in power in Washington defangs a lot of liberal criticism,” Chase Madar, a civil rights attorney in New York, told me in an interview. Indeed, but with a few exceptions – Michael Moore, Dennis Kucinich, The Nation – those who would be inclined to defend Manning were Bush still in office are the ones either condemning him or condoning his treatment, which has included spending the better part of a year in torturous solitary confinement, an all too common feature of American prisons. Even his progressive defenders, remaining loyal to the Democratic Party, tend to downplay Obama’s role in the Bradley Manning affair; his authorizing the abuse of an American hero is certainly no means not to vote for him again.

“The whole civil libertarian message only really seems to catch fire among liberals when there’s a Republican in the White House,” says Madar. When there’s not a bumbling Texan to inveigh against, all the sudden issues that were morally black and white become complex, and liberal media starts finding nuance where there wasn’t any before.

That much is clear in the case of Manning, the young soldier accused of leaking State Department cables and evidence of war atrocities to WikiLeaks. Under different conditions, [s]he might be a liberal hero. After all, much – though certainly not all – of what he exposed, from the killing of Iraqi civilians to US complicity in torture by the Iraqi government, happened during the Bush years. But it is the Obama administration that is imprisoning [her]. It is Barack Obama who pronounced [her] guilty before [s]he so much as had a trial (which [s]he’s still waiting for after almost two years in captivity). And so justifications must be made.

HER NAME IS BREANNA! SHE IS A WOMAN!

And she’s a damn hero, and is being terribly abused by the government. But she herself has fucking said that having pictures of her as a boy plastered across the internet is worse than death.

If you haven’t dug deep enough into the story to see Breanna’s pain at being referred to/seen as a man, and express desire to be seen as the woman she is (like tal9000 said, she would prefer death to being portrayed as a cis man, and has said that), you haven’t dug deep enough into the story to understand what’s going on. It’s a sign of sloppy reporting if you haven’t even read her conversation with Adrian Lamo and processed it.

If you just don’t care about her gender identity, regardless of your personal feelings about her political belief system and the way she went/goes about things to achieve her beliefs, then you are not impartial and you cannot accurately portray a social issue this complex.

Persisting with your paradigm in the face of contrary evidence, something this link does about Breanna’s status as a woman, is something that sounds awfully familiar! Oh wait. Because FOX News does it. Because Rush Limbaugh does it. Because so many radical news outlets do it, and are mocked for not being real journalists. They’re mocked because they aren’t real journalists; they’re just people talking about something that happened with so much abundant bias that it’s not even funny. I would trust The Onion and Cracked.com before I would trust people who actually try to pass off their own personal opinions and feelings as ‘journalism’. At least The Onion and Cracked.com don’t pretend to be something they aren’t.

The second your bias leaks strongly into something, you are no longer a reputable source on that topic, and I’m hesitant to call you a reputable source on anything at all. The second you cannot even respect the wishes of a victimized woman enough to change a few pronouns in your reporting, I am done reading your article. I am done calling you a journalist. I see that picture of Breanna at the top of the article. I see your title. Don’t even pretend you’re respecting her wishes, because you clearly aren’t.

An Open letter to butthurt white liberals

bringmewaterformymind:

Nobody cares about you or your feelings. Straight up.

Nobody cares that you feel excluded, no one cares that talking about race makes you uncomfortable.

Nobody cares that you constantly walk around in abject fear of PoC because you fear retribution for the atrocities that were committed against them in the past.

Because guess what? No matter how “excluded” you feel, no matter how much your whiteness feels threatened EVERY TIME a PoC speaks about their LIVED EXPERIENCE, no matter how many times your idiotic theories about how everyone is equal now and that we live in a colorblind society are shot down, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE A PERSON OF COLOR IN THIS COUNTRY.

It is far past time for us to be coddling your useless asses, trying to be a part of your “liberal” exclusionary ass movements.

OWS tried to derail the Trayvon Martin Rally into Zucotti Park for their own selfish means. This boy was shot in the back on a residential street by a racist piece of shit, and YOU’RE TRYING TO MAKE THIS SHIT ABOUT YOU? Fuck an OWS. Seriously.

The Gay movement routinely ignores queers of color and transgender folk- until a vote is coming up. About gay marriage, which has no bearing on your life if 1. You cant fucking AFFORD to be married or 2. People are trying to (and too often suceeding) KILL YOU.

The women’s movement doesn’t seem to understand the fact that I can be a woman, and Black at the same time. Or that this intersectionality in my identity means that I face a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT set of issues and opression.

If I can’t speak my mind without being labelled angry, then you can fuck off. Because I am angry, and anger is a legitimate reaction to UNENDING BULLSHIT.

When I speak about whiteness, privilege, racism, homophobia, etc I’m not here to hold your fucking hand or play nice. Because best believe if I said some out of pocket shit, ya’ll would be all UP my ass.

These things affect me in too real of a way to not get mad. My life is NOT your next thesis, and I do not live in your hippy-dippy fantasy world where everyone is equal and the system works. That has become ABUNDANTLY clear in the past month.

So I reiterate: Nobody cares about your feelings. If you feel as though your place as an ally is to preach at PoC without being able to take an honest critique of your world views, then kindly step the fuck off and stop wasting everyone’s time.

I might get an onslaught of hate from this post and I don’t care. If you take issue with any of this, please, feel free to inbox me.

All it does is prove all of the above true. Because if it doesn’t apply to you, then you won’t be upset.

Signed,

A Fed Up Black Lesbian who wants real allies, not people looking to indulge in their white savior complex.

p.s.- I see you real allies. Keep keepin’ it real, you guys have a special place in my heart

#Please go away if you don't think this applies

princekarkat:

im actually not too familiar with humon

is there a primer somewhere i can read up on or

Humon has done a lot of problematic stuff, and just refuses to acknowledge it or grow. One of the examples that comes to mind off the top of my head is her journal, "Please don’t hit me, trans people! ;_;", where she accused the trans* community of causing the alienation between the LGB and T elements in the queer community after she received negative comments on a strip that flat-out implied men should dislike women with penises. She also dismissed criticism about making a ‘trap’ joke in that same journal, went on to post a journal in which she speculated about what "the world would be like if both women and men could get pregnant”, has said that rape/assault can and has been prevented by women avoiding "unnecessary risks", and some of her comics are downright racist and often fetishistic of sexualities and other cultures. Let’s not forget the time she lumped “transsexuality” in with a strip called Sexuality Flags, because "I also know that I would have a lot of people yelling at me if it wasn’t there", and the time she drew "Sailor Hitler".

I hope that’s at least a little helpful; these are only the examples I know of. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more, honestly.
